The Thunder ended their weekend series with Lewis with a 6-2 defeat. Wheaton got off to a slow start, giving up 4 goals in the first period. Wheaton then settled down and were able to play the next two periods to a 1-1 draw each. Unfortunately, the sloppy first period proved to ultimately be too much for them to overcome. Wheaton now heads into Christmas break, and the half way point of the season, with a record of 1 win and 7 losses. The Thunder will go into a six week break for the holidays, and will be back in action next at home against conference rival Western Illinois University, at Center Ice of DuPage on January 15th, at 8:40 PM.
The Wheaton Thunder Hockey Club opened up a split home and home at the Center Ice of DuPage rink with a loss by the score of 6-3. Wheaton never had the lead in the game, but twice was able to come back from deficits before ultimately falling in the third period. Lewis scored the first goal of the game with 2:06 left in the first period. The Thunder responded by scoring off of a rebound buried by Spencer Graf 7 seconds later, at 1:59 left in the frame. In the 2nd period the Flyers earned two goals off of two power play opportunities. Two second period notches from senior David Clark in the final two and a half minutes of the period brought Wheaton even with Lewis at 3 heading into the third. At the top of the next period, the Flyers were able to take advantage of a 5-3 power play to reclaim the lead, and were able to tack on two more before the end of the game. The Thunder were unable to respond, and fell by a final of 6-3. Wheaton will be back in action Saturday evening at Lewis to cap off the weekend home and home series.
