Tough Opening Weekend Provides Some Optimism
The Thunder fell to 0-2 after their opening weekend of games against Washington University in St. Louis. Friday night’s final score was a tally of 9-0, as Wheaton was victim to a slow start to the game. The Thunder gave up 3 goals in the first four minutes, and playing from behind by multiple goals from the opening minutes of the game proved to be too much for the team, as they could only muster 17 shots on the game. Wheaton played a stronger game on Saturday, but still lost by a final of 6-3. Even though this weekend brought a rough start to the season, Saturday’s loss brings reason for hope as the Thunder look ahead in the season. Two of the three goals were scored by new players; the first coming from freshman Levi Schultz, and the second by Spencer Healey, a graduate student in his first season with the Thunder. Freshman Nathan Davis also contributed to the third Thunder goal; he would be credited with the primary assist on the goal scored by junior Luke Grogger. Moving forward, Wheaton will look for these new players to continue their strong contribution, as well as increased production from returning veterans.
