Thunder Fall Short in Home-Opening Weekend

Wheaton College opened their home games this weekend against the Lewis University Flyers, dropping both games.  Friday night’s game was a flat performance by the Thunder, as Lewis won the contest by a score of 10-0.  Wheaton came back with a much stronger performance in Saturday night’s game, holding the Flyers to a pair of goals, in large part due to the stellar performance of sophomore goalie Ted Townsend.  However, a couple of unfortunate no-goal calls against Wheaton, including a waived-off goal with three seconds remaining in the game, prevented the Thunder from tying the game.  Although the team had a much better all-around performance in Saturday evening’s game, Lewis still prevailed again, this time by a score of 2-1.  Wheaton takes on rival Robert Morris University next weekend in a pair of road games in Bensenville, where the Thunder hope to earn their first victories of the season, and gain some momentum as the season picks up.
