Drought is Over!
The Wheaton Thunder hockey team went on the road against conference rival Robert Morris University-Black, and came away with the team’s first win in three seasons by the score of 2-0. An all-around team effort saw the Thunder outplay the Eagles, outshooting the home team by a tally of 46-19. The score could have been even more lopsided, had it not been for the phenomenal play of RMU goalie Zack Weier, who made 44 saves on 46 shots, including stopping all 27 shots he faced in the second period alone. On the other end of the ice, however, Wheaton goalie Ted Townsend was equal to the task, making 19 saves and posting his first shut out as a member of the Thunder. The Thunder goals were scored by assistant captain Davis Melin, who lit the lamp less than a minute and a half into the game, and second-year graduate student Spencer Healy, who continues to make his presence known in his first season. The Thunder will be right back in action again on Saturday night, in Bensenville against RMU. Puck drop will be at 7:50 PM.
