Thunder Earn a Point in Painful Loss
The Wheaton Hockey team went into Bensenville on Saturday for game two of the weekend series against RMU-Black. Wheaton was able to jump off to a lead in the first, off of Graduate Student Julian Erb’s first goal in only his second game. However, that lead would disappear in the second, where a big period for the Eagles’ offense would yield 11 shots and 2 goals. The Thunder would tie the game in the third when freshman Levi Schultz buried a rebound off a point shot from Brant Goodrich, but after a scoreless overtime period, Wheaton would fall short in the shootout, and lost the game by a score of 3-2. Although the loss was a disappointing cap to the weekend, it was still a productive trip to Bensenville, as the Thunder were able to pick up 3 points on the road; 2 points for Friday night’s 2-0 victory and 1 point for Saturday night’s shootout loss. Wheaton will have a couple of weeks to rest and recover before traveling to Peoria to take on Western Illinois on December 2nd and December 3rd.
