After an almost disastrous start at the Joliet rink this year, the Crusader hockey team came on to play well in the second half of the season, peaking in their last two games of the year in defeating conference leaders St. Procopius and Lewis. The 5-4 victory over the St. Procopius Eagles in the next to the last game of the season was particularly gratifying as the victory assuaged a 13-0 pasting which the Eagles had handed the Crusaders in the first game of the season. Don Wait, the Crusader’s leader in goals, scored four in this contest. The sure-skating, fast-scoring front line of Wait, leading point producer Dwight Strong, and Mark Wold, third in points, returns intact next year. Although senior co-captain Bob Bennet, goalie Bob Joss, and others will be gone, the returning strong offense and developing defense, lead by sophomore Tom Johnson, who was also the fifth leading scorer, promises fine things in Wheaton Hockey for the coming season.
